StarBound Boss: QuadFrog

University External Art and Design Test 

This project was created for a mock art and design test in which we were tasked to create a design document for a new boss for starbound. This was for university and has no connection with Starbound itself or chucklefish and we were given permission to use assets from the game to help create a high-quality product, such as the character and backgrounds.

For my external art test, I was tasked with creating a boss for StarBound. To begin with I created a design document for this boss, I looked into the game and its world and settled for designing a boss belonging to a mini-biome called Swamp, I also research the creatures that inhabit the biome. This is where the idea of QuadFrog first came around. I then moved on to designing my boss and creating its pixel art and also the animations for him. Also, I looked into other bosses from StarBound and saw most of them had phases depending on their health, this is where I started to plan my bosses' attacks and at what point they would perform them.
